Interested but still not sure? Looking for training opportunities? Here are some tips:
Reach out to “local disability respite companies” or “disability or special needs camps”, and see if they have volunteering opportunities. Many are looking for volunteers all the time. This is a great way to work with individuals with all types of needs while getting support at the same time.
Some opportunities in Colorado are:
- Night Lights (Look for Bright Lights or volunteers): Providing free respite care once a month
- All-Stars Club: Providing free respite care once a month
- Megan’s Place: Provides care for children with physical and developmental disabilities ages 3-18
- Special Olympics: Provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities
